Chapter 5 - "Travel in Korea"
Teachers' Notes.

8) "Seoul Subway" Pairs: 15 minutes

Directions & Instructions. The first activity on this page asks students to direct each other around the Seoul Subway system. Students might be unaware of many of the main stations on the Subway, and it could be useful to take a large map of the Subway into the lesson. This material continues the theme of being able to explain to foreigners how to get around Korea - in this case the Subway. It also rehearses basic instructions and directions.

9) "Transportation in Seoul"
Pairs: 15 minutes

This is an interesting pair-work activity, the aim being to demonstrate once more that meaning comes from context, and that it is not necessary to understand every word in a passage. There are two passages (one on the "Seoul Subway" page), so students can perform both roles.

One student crosses out 10 words in the text (singly and randomly - not next to each other). the other student then tries to read the text (speaking) and to infer the missing words. If successful, then the first student crosses out another 10 words at random, etc.

NOTE: Student A's text is on the same page as the "Seoul Subway" activity.
