Chapter 12 - Cultural Identities and Differences
Teachers' Notes.

5) "Mourning the Dead"
Pairs/Groups: 10 minutes

This type of activity was performed in Chapter 10 ("The Post Office" "The Bank"), so once more, students should know what to do. The topic this time focuses on an aspect of living in Korea that most students should be familiar with, and models the type of language that can be used to describe such ceremonies.

Part 2 is a role-play, again explaining an aspect of Korean life to a confused foreigner, who should get lots of practice in asking "Wh" questions and using incomprehension gambits!

6) "Traditional Korea"
(see also next page)
Students' Page
Whole Class: 20 minutes

Two versions of this activity are suggested in the students' books, but as always, they should be encouraged to make their own games with the materials supplied.

Version 1: Students (in pairs) each receive a "Traditional Korea" card (Teachers' Resource) from the teacher. They then describe the contents of the cards to each other, and guess what the other person's card contains. This format can also be used for a "20 questions" game between two people.

Version 2: (Next page).
