Teacher's Notes
- Lesson 2 -

WE NEED MASK-MAKING-MATERIALS IN THIS LESSON.

REMIND STUDENTS TO FILL IN THEIR ATTENDANCE SHEETS
FOR THIS AND EVERY LESSON.

Student's book page 87. "Group Story" - Warm-up:

Materials: Student's book (Click here)
Students: Groups
Rationale: Constructing stories. Sequencing events.
Method: One person starts a story with a simple sentence (e.g. "Once upon a time, there was a tiger"). The next person adds a sentence (e.g. "The tiger was very hungry"). The next person adds another sentence (e.g. "The tiger saw a rabbit"). The group continues to the end of the story.
Notes: Students can make their own stories or narrate ones they already know. Stories can go in any direction, though students will probably not be happy with non-sequitors. This activity should help to get them thinking about sequencing events and about what sort of events are involved in stories.

Student's book pages 87,88."Mask-making?- Project-work:

Materials: Student's book (1) Student's book (2) (click here to see the student's page).
Paper plates, pens, paper, string, glue, scissors, markers.
Students: Pairs, singly.
Rationale: Making props.
Method: Students have a suggested mask-making instruction sheet in their books, but they can be encouraged to use this as a model, adding their own design for the face and anything else they wish.
Notes: Students should have an idea of the Drama they will perform and of their roles in that Drama. They can therefore make masks that fit those roles. For those students who "forget" to bring any mask-making materials, the teacher should have materials available, though this failure to “remember?can be a measure of student participation and commitment and can be commented upon in the Final Evaluation Session, when the teacher can ask (for example) how such actions fit in with the expressed learning goals.

Student's book page 89. "Cassette Journal" ? Homework

Materials: Student book (click here to see the student page);
Students: Pairs, singly.
Rationale: Self-assessment; ongoing personal record.
Method:

Students expand their Cassette Journals, this time reflecting on the goals which they set at the start of the semester and the extent to which those goals have been met. They also talk about plans for the coming vacation.

Notes:

This activity prepares students for the Evaluation Session, in which they will be giving their Cassette Journals to the teacher.
