Students:
Groups
Rationale:
Peer dictation. Listening to and
writing down News items. Comprehension gambits.
Method:
One student reads aloud paragraph
1 of the text (Study Bank, Part 3).
Others try to write it down in their books, using Cassette-player
directions instead of normal Classroom Language for direction:
"Stop!" "Play!" "Rewind!" "Fast
Forward!" "Pause!"
Notes:
The
reader should do EXACTLY what the others ask. If they say "Fast
Forward!", for example, the student should read very quickly.
If they say "Stop!", then the reader should stop immediately.
If they say "Rewind", the reader should make a "rewinding" sound.
Readers should be as literal as possible in order to encourage
accuracy of requests.
REMIND STUDENTS TO FILL IN "MY
ATTENDANCE SHEET" (STUDY BANK) FOR THIS LESSON.
Student's book
page 38. "News
Interview" - Project-work:
Preparing for authentic
News interviews through guided interview design and implementation.
Method:
Students choose someone
to interview and choose a number of questions to ask that person,
from the list suggested in the Student book. They write these
questions in their book (next page), and proceed to interview
the person concerned.
Notes:
The interviewee might
be a student from another class (class merges) or someone who
needs to be visited by the students for the purpose of holding
the interview. Students also need to think how this could become
part of their final News Broadcast.
Encouraging students
to think about the Project. What will they do? Who will perform
the various parts of the Project? Students are asked to think
about their own contributions and to start preparing for the Project.
