Before the Session:

  • Bring the Resource Box to class.

Scheduled Events:

  1. Attendance Sheet: Pass this around the room, so that students can check their names and other details. Class Journal, page 9.
  • My Skills and Needs: Student Workbook, page 5; Class Journal, pages 11, 12.
  • Find Someone Who ¡¦: Student Workbook, pages 6-8.
  • Glossary Crossword: Student Workbook, pages 9, 10.
  • Teacher notes:

  • My Classmates (from Session 1): Remind students to transfer the information they collected in Session 1, in the Student Workbook, page 4.
  • My Skills and Needs: Students should enter their assessments into the Needs & Skills (1) column in pages 11, 12 of the Class Journal. This is the first time this happens, so the journal must be available for students in this session. Students start in pair-work, then as they finish, they make groups of four and go into Find Someone Who ¡¦. There is no need to wait for everyone to finish the first activity. Let students find their own pace. This will be a convenient, comfortable and efficient way of finding appropriate groupings, allowing the class dynamics to emerge.
  • Glossary Crossword: This introduces the vocabulary that students will encounter in the Pre-project Learning section of the course. Students are encouraged to visit the glossary on pages 291 - 302.
