| Period 1: Theory of Classroom-Based Evaluation (CBA)
This period focuses on the theoretical concept for the week, and includes practical activities (pair-work, group-work, role-plays, questionnaires, surveys, jigsaw activities, etc.) based on that concept. This period will focus on the rationale behind Classroom-Based Evaluation:
- Why do we test language?
- What is the purpose of classroom-based evaluation?
- What aspects of language should we test?
- How can we test effectively and fairly?
- How can we assess continuously?
- How can we make assessment meaningful for students?
- How can we integrate assessment and instruction?
For this period, the textbook Integrating Teaching and Assessment in the EFL Classroom (ITAEC) will be used as a learning resource. Students will study chapters, discuss ideas, consider how the theory may be applied, and perform activities which are in the book. One assignment for each week is to prepare for this period by reading the appropriate chapter!
During this period, the focus will be on a student-centered approach. Students (in pairs and groups) will also make their own materials and will devise their own ways of presenting them. This will help students prepare for their presentations and will also help them to build up a collection of assessment materials.
