Assignments are designed to help in the development of materials-design skills. The focus of these assignments is practical, though they will also give you a valuable record of work done during the semester. Assigments are kept in the portfolio, where they are peer-assessed according to an assessment schedule.

Assignments are begun in class and completed out of class during the semester.
The assignments are worth 25% of the final grade.

• Obtain a copy of Designing Tasks for the Communicative Classroom (DTCC).
  
• Check out the home page
• Obtain a portfolio folder. A ring-binder is a good idea.
• Download all the assessment sheets. Print them out. Store them in your portfolio.
• Bring your DTCC, and portfolio to the first class.
• Check out the professor's introduction

Week 1:

• Post a message on the Noticeboard. Intorduce yourself to the course members.
• Read "Designing Tasks for the Communicative Classroom", Chapter 1, for next week
• Pre/post Course Self-assess: Print this out and bring it to class. Put it in the portfolio when it is complete.
• Check out the assessment schedule.

Week 2:

•  Design a static, one-way, grammar-based ELT activity for elementary, middle or high school students. Put it in your portfolio.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 2, for next week
• Portfolio Entry Sheet: print this out and put it in your portfolio.
• Send your photo to the professor by email: aef@knu.ac.kr .

Week 3:

• Design a one-way information-gap activity for elementary, middle or high school students. Put it in your portfolio.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 3, for next week
• Do the questionnaire about the course. Print out your answers, and put them in your portfolio.
• Fill in an ongoing self-assessment sheet and put it in your portfolio. Put your score in the Class Journal.(1)

Week 4:

• Design a two-way, information transfer activity (any level). Put it in your portfolio.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 4, for week 6
• Review for the Portfolio Conference

• Design a listening task. Print it out and put it in your portfolio.
• Fill in a Report Sheet about your work so far.
• Check out the MoE curriculum guidelines.

Week 7:

• Design a reading task. Print it out and put it in your portfolio.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 6a, for next week
• Materials-design Sample Self-assess/Materials-design Sample Partner-assess

Week 8:

• Design a writing task. Print it out and put it in your portfolio.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 6b, for week 10
• Review for the Portfolio Conference

• Design an ELL game, (Crossword, board game, card game, wordsearch, etc.), any level.
• Fill in a Report Sheet about your work so far.

Week 10:

• Design an ELL learner-training activity, any level.
• Read "DTCC", Chapter 7, for next week.
• Fill in an Ongoing Self-assess sheet. Put your score in the Class Journal (3).

Week 11:

• Design an ELL activity for the promotion of positive affect (confidence, motivation, attitudes, reduction of anxiety), any level.
• Read "DTCC", Appendix B, for next week.
• Materials-design Sample Self-assess/Materials-design Sample Partner-assess

Week 12:

• Design a humanistic/holistic ELL activity
• Review for the Portfolio Conference

• Fill in a Report Sheet about your work so far.

Week 14:

• Design a section of the final test.
• Hand in your portfolios.

Week 15:

• Take the test and mark the test (DTCC)
• Fill in an Ongoing Self-assess sheet. Put your score in the Class Journal (4).

Week 16:

• Pre/post Course Self-assess
